Back to Basics: A Simple Daily Skincare Routine for Healthy, Glowing Skin

Morning Skincare Routine in Soft Natural Light

After busy periods (late nights, heavy makeup, irregular meals, stress), your skin often shows it: dullness, dehydration, sensitivity, congestion, or uneven texture. The good news is you don’t need a complicated routine to recover. You need consistencygentle cleansing, and skin barrier support.

My “Back to Basics” promise: if your routine is simple and consistent, your skin becomes easier to treat, easier to calm, and easier to keep glowing—especially during Irish winter weather.

The Morning Routine (3–5 minutes)

  • Cleanse lightly (or rinse if your skin is very dry/sensitive): remove nighttime oils and prepare for products.
  • Hydrate with a serum/essence: think comfort + plumpness.
  • Moisturise to support the barrier and reduce tightness.
  • SPF daily (yes, even in winter): UVA exposure is present on cloudy days and through windows.

The Evening Routine (the routine that changes skin)

Evening care is your skin’s reset button. If you wear makeup, SPF, or live in a busy environment, a thorough cleanse matters. For many clients, the biggest improvement comes from one habit: proper cleansing every night.

Evening steps

  • First cleanse: remove makeup/SPF (balm or oil is ideal).
  • Second cleanse: cleanse the skin itself (gentle gel/cream, no harsh stripping).
  • Treatment product (optional): choose based on your skin goal (hydration, brightening, texture, sensitivity).
  • Moisturiser: lock in hydration and support the barrier overnight.
Simple rule: If your skin feels tight or “squeaky” after cleansing, it’s too harsh. Barrier-friendly cleansing should feel comfortable, not stripped.

Create an Environment That Makes Consistency Easy

Your routine doesn’t fail because you “lack willpower”. It fails when it’s too complicated. Keep your essentials visible, reduce steps, and focus on habits you can repeat for weeks—not days.
